Stanford Plaque
I made this plaque using a sand molded casting technique. A silicone replica of the plaque was
pressed in a moldable sand-clay mixture that holds its shape when packed. This forms a cavity in
the sand that is the negative image of the plaque. Molten brass is poured into the mold and
allowed to cool. Once cool the brass plaque is easily removed from the surrounding sand. To finish
the plaque, I removed the brass plug from the plaque with a saw. The edges were sanded to a
sixty degree angle, and the raised lettering were polished to a shine.
